Caroline NRI

For Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County during Summer and Fall 2018 in Caroline, New York, USA with Hassan Saleem and Skye Hart.

As a part of my summer internship, a small team and I completed a 98-page Natural Resource Inventory (NRI) for the Town of Caroline, very near Cornell University. This involved research into everything from bedrock geology to local rare plant and animal species in the jurisdiction, as well as the subsequent mapping and describing of our findings in great detail. This data was collected from a variety of sources and compiled in an easy to read report.

The Town of Caroline will use this report in their future planning and policy decisions. Being a very small town, its planning board is made up of citizens from a variety of not necessarily planning or sustainability related professions. Thus, it was crucial to make a very readable, straightforward report that anyone could grasp. It will also count towards their effort to become a certified New York State Climate Smart Community.

The following is an excerpt from the inventory detailing the soils in the Town of Caroline.
